Jasmijn Atsma
Jasmijn talks about her journey at Orthodontie Museumplein.
Jasmijn (26) is a theatre performer and teacher from Amsterdam. In her work, and especially on stage, having a beautiful smile is extremely important. That's why, after years of struggling within another orthodontic treatment, Jasmijn decided to once again work on the position of her teeth. This time as long as needed, until her bite is truly right.
Orthodontists, you don't have the best memories of them?
When I was 11 I went to the orthodontist for the first time. My teeth were very crooked, so I needed a brace. The treatment lasted no less than 9 years, and I never reached the desired end result. Many mistakes were made during the treatment, and on top of that I underwent a failed jaw surgery. At 18 I abruptly stopped that endless treatment. The years that followed I walked around a bit lost. My bite wasn't right, my molars couldn't make contact in any way. Eating an apple was already a challenge. I heard about Invisalign and decided, with renewed confidence, to start a new brace journey and see it through to the end. I went looking for the best orthodontist in Amsterdam and ended up with Lotte at Orthodontie Museumplein. I sent a message with my story and photos of my bite. Not much later I could already come in for an intake.
What did your treatment look like?
When I saw the 3D scan and simulation of my teeth, I could hardly believe these would be my teeth at the end of the treatment. Seeing the end result right at the start is really new, I didn't know it from the regular orthodontist. A lot needed to be done and a possible new jaw surgery couldn't be ruled out in advance. In the end I went into the treatment very motivated and wore the aligners very consistently, a full 22 hours a day. As a result they were able to achieve a great deal with about 49 aligners, and a new surgery wasn't necessary. Of course I'm really happy about that. The final finishing touch was 9 more aligners.

A reassurance, that's what it was every time I came to Orthodontie Museumplein
What did you see as the benefits of Invisalign?
Work-wise, the Invisalign brace was simply very practical because it isn't easy to see. It's also really nice that you can wear the brace without thinking about it, because nobody notices. The surprised reactions when I told people I was wearing a brace were always fun. You also keep your teeth easy to clean because you can take the brace out, and you have your own control over the treatment because you switch the aligners yourself. That way you feel like you're at the controls and in charge of your own journey. You can also leave the brace out for an evening out.
What made Orthodontie Museumplein different for you?
What a warm welcome it was. First and foremost. It's a lovely, friendly group of people who go to work for you with passion. Especially people who had previously had less positive experiences with orthodontics, like me, are reassured straight away. At Orthodontie Museumplein they set right what has gone wrong. I secretly even felt sad that my treatment had come to an end. It was always so nice to visit the practice.
How do you feel about the end result?
I'm really happy with the end result, not only do I have a beautiful row of teeth now, my bite is also much better. My motivation has truly been to create a healthy, well-functioning smile that I can carry into my eighties. That has finally been achieved and it has been more than worth the investment. I would absolutely recommend an Invisalign treatment at Orthodontie Museumplein to others, with a future of a beautiful, healthy smile in mind.
